A Fable Hero

Ojadili is the protagonist of an Igbo folk tale. A relentless warrior, he fought and won many battles on behalf of his village.

Overcome with an insatiable thirst for battle and undefeated by mortals, he dared to venture into the land of the spirits to fight the gods, a feat never accomplished by any man. Discouraged by all around him, he crossed seven rivers, and navigated the evil forest to the land of the spirits.

Against all odds, Ojadili conquered as may spirits as challenged him, but barely escaped the dead into the land of the living. While escaping, he was struck in the back – a mark which is said to be the source of the deep etched line in the back of humans to this day.
